Cooperation with the VAW, ETH Zurich, on "Aeration and two phase flow characteristics of bottom outlets"

Introduction

The Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research and Supply of Electricity (SCCER-SoE) conducts sustainable research in the fields of geo-energy and hydropower. It also develops new technologies and optimises existing technologies for the future energy production (www.sccer-soe.ch).

In the context of Work Package 2, the Labratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology (VAW) at ETH Zurich, investigates the aeration and characterisation of a two phase flow in bottom outlets with a physical model.

As part of our cooperation with the VAW, TK CONSULT AG has been tasked with applying a commercial CFD code to analyse two phase flows of bottom outlets and test the performance of the code. The numerical model is calibrated and validated by measured data of the physical model at VAW.

Services TK CONSULT AG

  • Setting up the numerical Model
  • Calibration and validation of the numerical model with the data from the physical experiments at VAW
  • Use of different aeration modules with increasing physical complexity
  • Documentation of the results
